Previous: Research Associate, X-ray Astronomy
Initially, I joined this group to develop
silicon strip & germanium detectors for applications in X-ray astronomy.
I remained to develop the calibration system for the Wide Field Camera (WFC)
on the X-ray astronomy satellite ROSAT.
I was responsible for
the design of the WFC calibration software, & used
prototypes of this software to analyse WFC test images.
I was also jointly responsible for the design, simulation, &
testing of the WFC in-flight UV calibration hardware.
In addition to my WFC related tasks,
I adapted the public domain database from the
ray satellite
COS-B for use in a VAX/VMS environment,
and collaborated in the subsequent analysis of COS-B data.
I was responsible for managing the Astrophysics group's
VAX 11/750, & for assessing their future computing requirements.
